ABSTRACT

Rural hospitality and tourism (RHT) play a key role in rural revitalization, especially due to the impact of COVID-19, with more citizens choosing to travel to the countryside for a staycation. Local SMEs, especially family-owned enterprises, make up the majority of the RHT sector, not only providing services and products to satisfy tourists, but also helping with local employment. However, entrepreneurs operating in rural areas face many challenges in terms of capital, skills and education. Hence, it is important to explore the entrepreneurial intention (EI) of local people and how policies can support or change their behaviours. Current research on the RHT industry, rarely study the EI of local people, and the literature on rural entrepreneurship concentrates on developed countries. This study therefore uses agent-based modelling to explore how locals' EI in Chongming island (China) respond to the current impact of COVID-19, and whether policies will bring about changes on the supply side of RHT sector. © SW 2023.All rights reserved

ABSTRACT

The tourism crisis following the Covid-19 pandemic has caused many communities to rethink and review tourism. In fact, in European countries, many destinations are now focused on more inclusive and sustainable measures rather than over tourism, so they have invested in sustainability to create tourist-friendly places. The rural areas, in particular, are affected by a demand motivated by a longing for discovery and authenticity, and they seem to be working towards a multi-scalar planning: walkability and digitalization stand out as fundamental choices to meet the needs of tourists and residents. In this context, the paper aims, after a preliminary review of the literature on rural areas’ walkability, to highlight the relationship between rural walkability and tourism through the analysis and comparison of two rural paths: the Mining Path of Santa Barbara (Sardinia, Italy) and the Path of Saint James (Gran Canaria, Spain). It represents virtuous examples of fruition and enhancement of the insular landscape, promoting a place-based approach for a sustainable and cohesive local development. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

ABSTRACT

A bibliometric study is a method used to evaluate the productivity of scientific results in quantitative terms. Bibliometricians apply mathematical and statistical methods to quantify scholarly communications. Using the Bibliometrix program, a database compiled from SCOPUS and Web of science was studied to study the different scientific and literary behaviours of rural tourism development, tourism sustainability, and outdoor activities. In the main database steps, 161 articles were analysed, of which 61 were SCOPUS articles, and 100 were Web of Science articles. As per this database, the relationship between rural tourism with sustainable tourism and outdoor activities, through a bibliometric analysis, looks to study the annual scientific production, the research impact, the authors, and articles most relevant to the themes of research trends over the years. Several interesting and important conclusions were obtained from these results for developing the themes. The results of this study indicate that sustainable tourism and rural tourism have extreme relevance to the studies carried out. Hence, rural tourism and outdoor activities are increasingly sustaining a relationship of partnership, much due to the influences of COVID-19. © 2022 IEEE Computer Society. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

In 2020, COVID-19 outbreak in China near the Spring Festival, the tourism industry was pressed "pause key". The tourism suppliers have been affected to varying degrees, especially in poor rural areas with a single industrial structure and high tourism dependence, the risk of deepening poverty or returning to poverty has increased dramatically. This paper aims to explore and expands the diversified income increasing space to the rural poor, help to realize the effective connection of the poverty alleviation achievements and rural revitalization, to ensure the sustainable development of rural tourism, besides, to providing experience and reference to other poor rural areas and even the world's poverty reduction. Literature review method, case study and field survey method, brainstorming method, supply chain reverse tracing methods are used to collect and analyze data. We take a diachronic field survey of the rural TSC in north western Yunnan, China. This paper build a complete TSC system under the framework of "industry-element-channel-mechanism-guarantee", and explores the operation mechanism of rural TSC guiding rural poverty reduction, discovering the ways in which the rural poor mainly participates in the TSC, which can further clarify and expand the diversified income increasing space to the rural poor population. Then we summarizes the current difficulties faced by the chain in the practice of poverty reduction;finally, based on the perspective of the poor, the rural TSC extension, sharing, customization, localization, talent cultivation and green supply chain countermeasures are proposed. © 2021 Kriedt Enterprises Ltd. ABSTRACT

Tourism has a reasonably severe impact due to physical restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the programs responding to this condition is encouraging rural tourism, which has many natural resources. It is considered to be suitable for future tourism models after a reasonably long quarantine period. However, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that make up most businesses in rural tourism will find it challenging to recover independently. It drives collaborations among the SMEs empowered by information technology, which is known as e-collaboration. It requires an e-collaboration model to guide the SMEs to set up and manage their business in rural tourism. Hence, a study is conducted to identify the dimensions and factors of an e-collaboration model. By implementing Kitchenham's Systematic Literature Review (SLR) guidelines, the dimensions represent technological and non-technological aspects. These are strategic, management, social, technology, and innovation. © 2021 IEEE

ABSTRACT

Rural tourism has become a way for people to pursue a simple life and relax, thanks to the variety of tourism forms available. Rural tourism, on the other hand, lacks a unified information platform for providing services to users and is unable to provide humanized services based on tourism experience. Rural tourism around the city has become the main force of tourism recovery because outbound tourism has yet to begin and domestic interprovincial tourism has only recently recovered. The development of rural tourism can be aided by an information service system that can effectively improve the utilization efficiency of tourism resources and explore new and reasonable paths for the development of rural tourism. This paper examines the opportunities and challenges that rural tourism faces in the face of the COVID-19 epidemic, as well as actionable strategies for the rapid growth of rural tourism. This paper introduces the Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) technology required in the construction of the tourism service information sharing platform as the research object. In addition, the rural tourism information service system was established. So that rural tourism can be at the forefront of tourism's rapid recovery and revitalization, it should be promoted to become more vibrant. © 2022 Yukun You.

ABSTRACT

Rural tourism destinations meet difficulties in developing rural cultural tourism because of their poor marketing abilities. This research applied virtual reality to promote rural tourism destinations' images. Taking Hubei province as an example, this research investigated the practical approaches of integrating virtual reality with rural cultural tourism. By conducting the field research in Zijin town, the outcomes shown that the virtual reality technology helped dig out the rural tourism destination's advantages and expand its market. The results of this research contributed to promoting the brand awareness of rural tourism destinations and recovering rural tourism after the epidemic of COVID-19. © 2021 IEEE.
